This is an excellent entry from 2011 National Geographic Global Photo Contest China Region, shot by photographer Du Yuansen. From a low upward angle, the bluestone path of the ancient Great Wall stretches forward, flanked by weathered grey brick walls, leading to a rammed earth watchtower with crenellations under the cloudless deep blue sky. The strong light and shadow contrast fully shows the grand, ancient charm of this world cultural heritage, conveying thousands of years of historical precipitation.
