This documentary photo records the scene of Guanaja Island in Honduras' Bay Islands after being ravaged by Hurricane Mitch. The original dense mountain forest was almost completely destroyed, with broken dead trunks and yellow vegetation all over the ground, only a small patch of new green plants remaining. Hurricane Mitch in 1998 is one of the deadliest tropical cyclones recorded in the Atlantic, causing severe damage to ecology and livelihood in Central America.
