This is a classic watercolor work created by famous Scottish landscape painter David Roberts in 1838, a representative 19th century Orientalist landscape painting. It depicts the sunset scene on the Nile bank at Gurna, Thebes, Egypt. Two ancient Colossi of Memnon are half submerged in the Nile, warm golden dusk light covers the whole frame, with wading workers, grazing cattle and hazy desert horizon in the distance, full of profound historical sense of ancient Egyptian civilization.
