This is an 1838 watercolor work by Scottish artist David Roberts, depicting the grand portico ruins of Kalabasha Temple in Egypt. With warm sandy yellow tones, it shows giant papyrus capital columns and remaining relief walls of Ptolemaic era ancient Egyptian architecture. Scattered collapsed stone blocks on the ground and tiny figures highlight the huge scale of the monument, presenting the original look of Egyptian relics before large-scale 19th century archaeological restoration.
