This is the famous Gal Vihara stone Buddha statue group in the Ancient City of Polonnaruwa, a World Cultural Heritage site in Sri Lanka. The whole set of statues is carved directly from a complete natural granite cliff. The foreground is a giant reclining Buddha in nirvana posture, with a standing Buddha with crossed arms behind it. The statues retain natural stone texture, still with smooth lines and serene expressions after thousands of years of weathering. It is the peak representative of ancient Sri Lankan Buddhist art.
