This landscape photo was taken near Paria River on the Colorado Plateau, Utah, USA, showing the unique landform of petrified sand dunes formed by millions of years of geological processes. The undulating red-orange sandstone is covered with smooth light striped textures, like wave patterns outlined by natural strokes. A few drought-tolerant desert shrubs are scattered on the rock slope, and the clear deep blue sky sets off the whole geological landscape extremely grand and primitive. This cross-bedded sandstone is a precious geological relic formed by compaction and cementation of ancient dunes.
