This is the famous winter landscape of Blue Pond in Biei, Hokkaido, Japan. The clear cobalt blue lake surface is as calm as a mirror, with withered larch trunks half submerged in water, branches covered with white snow. Falling snowflakes are drifting down, and the distant forest is hazy in light white mist. Formed naturally after a dam was built for debris flow prevention in 1988, the Blue Pond gets its unique dreamy blue hue from aluminum hydroxide particles in the water. The snowy winter scene presents a peaceful, ethereal and healing atmosphere, which is a world-famous landscape photography spot.
